In response to the article “You’re not done: Shutesbury resident saves life of good friend by performing CPR at remote camp,” [Gazette, Aug. 9], if it wasn’t for Frank Grindrod being at the right place at the right time, Michael Haynack potentially would have not survived his cardiac arrest.

According to the American Heart Association, 360,000 people are out-of-hospital victims of cardiac arrest each year in the U.S. Here at Safe And Healthy Education, we train health care providers and the public in general (including children and teens) on first aid and CPR skills. CPR is such an essential skill that everyone should know, since approximately 90% of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims do not survive. Hats off to Mr. Grindrod!
