NORTHAMPTON — The Roost, a coffee shop located at the corner of Main and Market streets, announced on social media that it will be closing down permanently, although hinted at a potential new business may be reborn from the closure.

The store posted on its Facebook page Tuesday that it was closing after 14 years in business, having first opened in 2011. The store’s last day will be Sunday.

“Over the last 14 years, the Roost has been home to many first dates and more than one marriage proposal, countless poetry readings, paint-n-sips and a few epic karaoke nights,” the post read. “Thanks to all the regulars, friends and staff who helped make this corner of downtown Northampton so magical.”

However, the post also hinted that a new business may soon be in the works.

“We are thrilled to bring you something new in the coming months,” the post read. “Watch this space and keep following us for exciting updates.”

Robyn Wynn, the owner of the Roost, declined to comment when contacted by the Gazette, saying she was focused on preparing on closing the store down.

The Roost was first opened in 2011 by Wynn (who at the time went under the name Robyn Goodmark) and Adam Dunetz. It became known for its Wednesday game nights, inviting players to partake in various games for the chance to win a free dessert. On one occasion in 2013, the famous folk singer Carole King performed as part of stumping for U.S. Sen. Ed Markey.

The store will remain open during its regular hours until its final day of Sunday.
