Briefs: Smith Academy’s ‘Falcon 5K’ set for April 12

On Saturday, April 12, the Smith Academy Booster Club is hosting the “Falcon 5K,” starting at Smith Academy, located at 34 School St. in Hatfield, at 9 a.m.

On-site registration will be provided from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. before the race begins a half hour later. Per the Smith Academy Booster Club flier, the race is going to take place “rain or shine.”

The 5-kilometer race is a scenic run or walk through historic Hatfield that starts and ends at the high school, and is a chip-timed event open to participants of all ages and abilities.

Online registration ends on April 10 at midnight. Runners can register online (eorcrunner1.wufoo.com/forms/smith-academy-athletics-booster-club-falcon-5k) or in person the day of the race, both for a cost of $35. If you register online before March 25, one will receive a free T-shirt.

Light refreshments will be available for all participants at the race, and prizes are rewarded to the top finishers. The first-place male and female winners earn a cash prize. There are also divisions split into age groups (under 12, 12-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-plus) that can also win prizes.

Northampton Parks & Rec HoopFest

The Northampton Parks & Recreation Department is again hosting the HoopFest 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament this month for those in grades 6-11 from March 27-30.

Players in grades 6-8 will register as individuals and take part in “Draft Night,” in which teams of three will be randomly created. Players in grades 9-11 can register in teams or as free agents. Each team is guaranteed three games and top teams will compete in championship game(s).
