Summer Ultimate League of Amherst (SULA) starts next week

The Summer Ultimate League of Amherst (SULA) is set to return for another action-packed summer. Starting next week, three different leagues will begin and run through the first week of August.

The league is geared toward people who want to enjoy the thrill and excitement of ultimate frisbee, according to SULA. Even for those who have never played before but want to join will still be assigned to a team and taught the ropes.

On June 20, the adult recreational mixed league (ages 14-plus) starts at the Plum Brook Rec Area at 6 p.m.

One day prior, on June 19, the women only league (ages 13-plus) begins at 6 p.m., also at Blum Brook Rec Area. Those are the two adult leagues offered.

Elsewhere, SULA also offers a junior league, where kids from ages 7 to 13 can play. Practices and games are held each session, and they will be coached by local players including Sue Morrello (

Specific frisbee activities for seven and eight year olds will be held beginning on June 25. That same day, the elementary division (ages 9 to 11) and middle school divisions (ages 12 and 13) also begin.

All leagues cost $49 to participate, and everything is held at the Plum Brook Rec Area.
