HOLYOKE — A man who police say was involved in a shooting Thursday afternoon that damaged the City Hall Annex building faces a raft of weapons and drug charges following his arrest soon after the shooting.

Hector Rivera, no age given, of Holyoke was arrested in Chicopee in the car police say was the source of the gunfire. The vehicle contained $5,831, 117 rounds of ammunition, a 9mm Beretta handgun, 486 bags of heroin, and 101 vials of cocaine, according to police. Police are still seeking a second suspect.

Rivera is charged with possession with intent to distribute Class A and B drugs, carrying a firearm without a license, using a large-capacity firearm in the commission of a felony, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property over $1,200, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and nine other counts.

Police said the city’s ShotSpotter technology alerted them to gunfire at around 1:45 p.m. at 532 High St., where a passenger in a green Buick allegedly fired a weapon toward Cabot Street. Two of the five bullets fired struck the City Hall Annex, damaging windows and the interior, police said.
