Tuesday’s high schools: Matt Hewes, Smith Vocational drop pitchers’ duel to Andrew Roman, Pathfinder

Matt Hewes and Andrew Roman were locked in a pitchers’ duel, Tuesday at Arcanum Field in Florence.

Hewes allowed three hits and struck out 11, but Roman allowed three hits and fanned 14 as Pathfinder beat Smith Vocational, 2-1.

Hunter Brooks, Hewes (run) and Sean Gross each had a hit for the Vikings (7-6, 6-4 Tri-County).

Smith Voke scored in the first, but Pathfinder (8-3, 8-0) answered with two in the third.

Roman fanned 10 of the final 14 hitters he faced.

Ware 9, Granby 2 — Noah Bleakley went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Rams in a road loss.

Joe Desormier led Granby (10-4) with three hits, while Tom Rezzani had two.

Ware (10-1) qualified for the postseason with the win.

Chicopee Comp 17, South Hadley 1 (5) — The Tigers scored first, but the Colts (3-9) answered with 15 runs in the first inning to cruise at home.

Teddy Doyle had two hits, while Chance Almonte and Kyle Gemme each had one for South Hadley (7-4).

Lee 6, Gateway Regional 5 (9) — The Gators (2-10) led 5-0 after the top of the first, the Wildcats (4-6) answered with two in the first and three in the second.

Bryce Whalen’s bases-loaded walk-off single sealed the win in the ninth.

Boys volleyball

Ware 3, Smith Vocational 1 — Tyler Top had two blocks, three aces, five digs and six assists, but the Vikings lost 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21 at home.

Aman Ruhe added six digs, five aces, four kills and two blocks, while Malcolm Reyes-Stoneham had five digs, four assists and three kills for Smith Voke (1-7).
