Betty Ussach-Schwartz: Hell hath no fury like a narcissist scorned

Waiting for craven legislators or beholden Supreme Court justices to put the brakes on Donald Trump, and his band of opportunist miscreants? It isn’t going to happen.

It’s going to take a massive wake-up call from his scammed supporters to inundate their senators and representatives with phone calls, text messages and appearing en masse at their offices. If Trump is not impeached, and found guilty, for his unconstitutional and treasonous actions by legislators of both parties he will continue on his resentment crusade. He must be chastened and reminded that he was elected president not sovereign ruler of an ever-expanding territorial kingdom.

Not being satisfied with penalizing, threatening and enraging half of voting Americans, he has set his sites on alienating some of our closest trading partners and disengaging with former allies who endeavor to protect the environment and unite for safety from aggressive nations.

Historically, Trump’s motivations were accumulating massive wealth and basking in media attention. His ego was thus satisfied in the private sector for many decades until he became president and his narcissism expanded, requiring a new driving force. The more Trump as president was subjected to scrutiny, and criticized by those he always hungered to impress, the more he obsessed about punishing and vanquishing his enemies.

He brilliantly, aided by a cadre of vindictive opportunists, found that grievances and retribution would satisfy and motivate his base as well. His unquenchable need to penalize his perceived domestic enemies, by destroying their lives and careers, has not been sufficient to appease his anger. Only by manufacturing new issues with other nations can he keep the anger alive, diverting attention of his supporters, who are now experiencing the financial brunt of his executive orders and punitive tariffs.

Trump’s road to victory was fueled by tapping into the hatred and resentment that existed historically, and is presently being maintained by manufacturing new grievances to fill his coffers, monopolize the spotlight and share in his uncontrolled fury. His resentment will never be appeased and everybody will suffer the consequences.
