The Amherst Regional girls ultimate team saddled itself with a challenge the weekend before its home invitational.

The Hurricanes went 1-4 at the Andover Invite playing in the open division with all boys teams.

They beat Arlington 7-6 and lost to Falmouth 804 and St. Johnโ€™s Prep 9-1.

Xavarian and the Lexington junior varsity shut Amherst out.

โ€œTypically what weโ€™re trying to do is give ourselves a big challenge before the Amherst Invitational. Playing boys teams is a great way to do that,โ€ Amherst coach Josh Nugent said. โ€œWhatโ€™s happening is because the boys high school scene is developing really fast, the boys teams are getting better, which is good for them, but not great for us.โ€
