AMHERST — There were no injuries as a result of a kitchen fire at The Boulders Apartment Homes, but inhabitants of the apartment where the fire happened will be temporarily displaced due to damage.

The fire, which took place in building 117 of the complex, was called in at 6:57 p.m., according to police.

Fire Captain John Ingram said they are still not sure what exactly caused the fire.

The fire was extinguished by the first crew that came out to the building, Ingram said, which consisted of two men plus the engine driver.

There was enough damage that the firefighters had to take the ceiling down in order to make sure no flames had reached up there, Ingram said. The place is uninhabitable at the moment.

Responders at the scene weren’t sure how many people were staying in the apartment and would be displaced for the time being.

The smoke was heavy in the apartment, Ingram said, but no flames reached outside of the one apartment inside building 117.
