CHARLEMONT — A man was airlifted by LifeFlight to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield following a motorcycle accident shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday.
According to Charlemont Police Sgt. John McDonough, the accident happened near 45 Main St. (Route 2), just east of Cold River Cafe & Restaurant.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, appeared to be traveling east on a 2005 Harley Davidson when he veered off the road, McDonough said. The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved, and McDonough said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
According to Shelburne Fire Capt. Bob Manners, a Charlemont ambulance transported the patient to Dragon Hill in Shelburne Falls, where a landing zone was set up for the LifeFlight helicopter.
“Apparently, the injuries were severe enough to warrant transport to Baystate in Springfield,” Manners said.
Highland Ambulance out of Goshen intercepted the Charlemont ambulance en route to provide paramedics, Manners added. Manners himself responded to Dragon Hill with a Shelburne fire engine to secure the landing zone.
