NORTHAMPTON — Two men police say were involved in a December incident in Amherst which a man was shot in the leg and struck in the head by a metal pipe were indicted by a Hampshire Superior Court grand jury.

The grand jury handed up the indictments Tuesday for Malek F. Bosmond and Akieli Brown.

Bosmond, 24, of Amherst, was indicted on counts of unlawful possession of a firearm; assault by means of a dangerous weapon, a firearm; reckless assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, a firearm; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; and witness intimidation.

Brown, 24, of Amherst, was indicted on a single count of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, a metal pipe.

Arraignment dates have not been scheduled for either men. Both have previously pleaded not guilty in Eastern Hampshire District Court to charges relating to the incident.

Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance to the 500 block of Mill Valley Estates on Dec. 20 at 12:38 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a wounded man who had been shot in the leg and struck in the head by a metal pipe. The man was taken by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.
