NORTHAMPTON — A downed power line in Florence left some 2,400 residents temporarily without power on Wednesday afternoon.

The wire in question is located on Riverside Drive, and went down at around 12:41 p.m., according to National Grid spokesman Bob Kievra. Around 2,400 people initially lost power after the company had to “de-energize” lines in order to make repairs.

“Now the remaining people are the ones who are directly impacted by the wire down,” Kievra said at around 1:30 p.m. Power was expected to be restored for those residents by 2:30 p.m., he added.

Crews were on the scene of the downed wire, Kievra said, though he did not know what knocked that line out of service.
