NORTHAMPTON – A 28-year-old Springfield man was sentenced 5 to 7 years in state prison on Wednesday after a Hampshire Superior Court jury convicted him on a charge of rape.
Judge Daniel Ford sentenced Alberto Sanchez, formerly of Amherst, following a 5-day trial.
Sanchez was charged in connection with a May 27, 2016 incident at Sanchez’s apartment in Amherst during which he assaulted a woman who was known to him. Sanchez and the woman had been out together in the evening prior to the assault in his apartment, according to prosecutors.
The incident was investigated by Detective Marcus Humber of the Amherst Police Department, and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Suhl, who requested a 6 to 8 year prison sentence. Sanchez’s defense attorney, Korrina Burnham, had requested 10 years probation.
