AMHERST — A presentation on issues related to the Amherst public schools will take place Monday evening as required by the town charter adopted in March 2018.
The Amherst School Committee and Superintendent Michael Morris are holding the public forum at Town Hall at 6 p.m.
Morris said the forum will include a brief presentation about capital and facilities needs, specific to the three elementary schools, as well as other projects. The public will have time to share thoughts and opinions and ask questions on topics related to primary education.
The forum is only scheduled to last about 20 minutes before the school committee holds a regular meeting.
The town charter requires that the chairperson of the school committee call at least one public forum each calendar year to address items relevant to the public schools. The charter also requires that the town manager be present for the forum.
According to the charter, “the public forum shall present the public with context, alert the public to upcoming issues, and collect feedback from the public.”
The school forum is believed by town officials to be the last requirement of the town charter to be completed in the 12 months since the new town government was inaugurated on Dec. 2, 2018.
