■Regulations for the Cattle Show & Fair at Northampton have been announced. Entries for the plowing match must be made on or before the 16th of October. The match will take place precisely at ten o’clock on the 23rd. Four oxen and 50 minutes time allowed to each plow for a quarter of an acre. Reference to be had to the quality of the plowing only, if performed within the time.
■The annual meeting of the Hampshire Bible Society will be holden at the courthouse in Northampton on Wednesday, the 15th inst., at 11 o’clock A.M. The directors have taken such measures to render it interesting, as they hope will induce a general attendance.
■Building Inspector Rocheleau has issued a permit to Wilbur D. Rice of Florence for a lunch cart which will be located at Main and Maple streets, on the old hotel corner. The cart, which will be provided by the Worcester Lunch Cart Co., will be 8 by 20 feet and will cost $3,350.
■Alberts & Lipshires, the owners of the Shoe Outlet and also of the wholesale shoe business, are having extensive changes made in the old Temperance Hall block on Center Street, which they recently bought from C. N. Fitts. When the changes are completed, there will be a modern store for the Shoe Outlet and also a basement store and offices on the second floor that will be rented.
■This is the day the bells rang at Smith College proclaiming Mountain Day. As usual the shouts of joy could be heard for some distance. By mid-morning the highways and trails were bright with color as the girls, knapsacks of food over their shoulders, participated in the annual celebration.
■The City Council Thursday night confirmed five appointments to the Planning Board made earlier this week by Mayor Sean M. Dunphy. Three of the members — Mary Ann Alexander, Dr. Peter Laband and Robert W. LaSalle — are new to the board. The mayor also re-appointed John P. Holich and Charles W. Baranowski, who is chairman.
