Final interviews set for Granby school superintendent candidates

GRANBY — The School Committee will interview two finalists for Granby’s superintendent position on Monday after an hour-long meet and greet with the public, according to the district. 

The two finalists, Granby’s interim Superintendent Mary Jane Rickson and Holliston’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Joanne Menard, will attend the 6:30 p.m. meeting at East Meadow School for interviews. After the initial interviews, the committee will deliberate to determine if one candidate will be offered the position. 

The School Committee voted on the finalists and discussed questions during its March 18 meeting. The two finalists will give an opening and closing statement as part of their interviews. In between, the committee will ask 10 questions, with the candidates given five minutes to respond.

According to a statement issued by the school district, Rickson aims to continue her work optimizing the district’s financial resources to provide students with high-quality education. She’s been in education for 35 years, with 18 years in leadership and administrative roles. Prior to coming to Granby, Rickson served as the sssistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and assessment at Hampshire Regional School District, director of Career and Technical Education at Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical and interim superintendent of schools at Maynard Public Schools.

Menard, whose worked in education for the last 17 years, currently develops Holliston’s school district curriculum. As part of her position, she collaborates with district curriculum coordinators and conducts district-wide evaluations. Mendard has worked in Holliston public schools since 2021, serving as liaison to the School Committee’s Policy and Budget Committees and a district English language learner coordinator. She also has directed the district’s professional development council.
