High schools: Frontier volleyball holds off Ware (PHOTOS)

Trailing 23-21 in the fourth set, the Frontier boys volleyball team stormed back to score the final four points and pull out a 3-1 victory over Ware on Thursday night at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield.
Frontier (4-0) dropped the opening set 25-15 but stormed back to earn 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 wins in the ensuing three sets.
“We struggled with errors in the first set,” Redhawks coach Courtney Parent said. “We had some situations out of our control this week and we had to make a new lineup. It was a nice comeback with a team win with a new lineup.”
Freshman Tavo Vincent-Warner recorded an ace on match point to aid the win while Jesse Kurkulonis moved out from the setter role and paced the offense as a hitter.
Vincent-Warner finished with 14 assists and three aces in the win. Kurkulonis and Aleks Carey each tallied eight kills, Patrick Boyden put down six kills, Jamih Griffin dished seven assists and Payton Sladeski made 18 digs in the victory.
Commerce 3, Granby 1 – The Rams battled back from an 0-2 hole but ultimately fell to the Raiders on Thursday. Set scores were 25-18, 25-20, 12-25, 25-21.
Agawam 3, Belchertown 0 – Ty Bogdnanovich had six aces and three kills as the Orioles fell 25-8, 25-11, 25-23 on Thursday.
Gabriel Ibeliko had four kills for Belchertown, while Nicholas Ibeliko dished out six assists and Connor White notched two blocks.

Holyoke 3, East Longmeadow 0 – Jairam Rodriguez put together a triple-double with 15 assists, 14 digs and 10 kills in the Purple Knights’ home victory. He chipped in two aces, as well.

Wahconah 20, Belchertown 1 – Rylan Queiros tallied for the Orioles in a loss to Wahconah on Thursday.
Amherst 5, Minnechaug 0 – The Hurricanes didn’t drop a set en route to a 5-0 sweep of the Falcons on Thursday in Wilbraham.
Aengus Cox (6-1, 6-0), Zach Richards (6-2, 6-4) and Miles Jeffries (6-0, 6-0) swept their singles matches for Amherst, while the doubles tandems of Ben Oates/Josh Kellogg (6-2, 6-2) and Andrew Kwon/Pierre Katsaros (6-0, 6-3) also rolled to victory.
