Betty Ussach-Schwartz: The greatest grift of all

It’s only a matter of time before President Donald Trump offers refugee status to any foreign national who is willing to pay an entrance fee to an unspecified American account and buys real estate from the Trump property inventory. Naturally, the price of the real estate will be determined by a bidding war that will immediately enhance its value.

Having escaped scorn or conviction for any of his emolument deals since attaining prosecutorial immunity, Trump need not fear impeachment or imprisonment. To sweeten any property deal, Trump could bestow immediate citizenship through an executive order on any purchaser willing and able to pay an additional enormous sum of money.

Not having to renounce their citizenship by swearing allegiance to the United States, they can always leave the country if and when a backlash occurs. While offering refugee status to white Afrikaners as a concession to Elon Musk, Trump, always on the lookout for personal profit, can forego that one opportunity to enrich himself. And if there is no hue and cry or diminution in his MAGA support, should this immigration exception be successful, Trump can perhaps divert his attention from golfing back to grifting.
