Barry De Jasu: Where are the Democrats?

As the lame duck Biden administration enters its last month, I ask: Where are the Democrats?

Biden just pardoned a “cash for kids” judge. Biden, and way too many Dems, are continuing to send endless weapons and funds to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his savage annihilation of Palestinians. VP Kamala Harris has just “gone fishing” since her defeat. Why hasn’t Biden sought every possible angle to forgive all student debt? What possible safeguards or delaying tactics have been explored to dull the coming fascist Trump administration?

It seems to me the Dems are most concerned that there be a “nice” transition of power. Or perhaps a greater concern for the centrist Dems is keeping the Democratic Party power out of the hands of the “Medicare for all,” environmental emergency-recognizing, ERA-demanding, and “dignity for all people” progressive wing of the party.

We are about to enter a potentially very grim time in our country’s history where the mainstream news media has already capitulated to the coming fascism that is Trump and the billionaire oligarchs. There other sources of factual news such as Commondreams.org, Truthout.org and The Guardian, to name a few. We can only look to ourselves for help. The centrist Democrats have for too long been happy living as neo-liberals. They are in denial of their own contributions to our current condition.

Politicians such as Bernie Sanders, AOC, Ilan Oman, Elizabeth Warren and too few others have been fighting the good fight. We must join them and support them. There is a big demonstration in D.C. planned, but unfortunately not until after Donald Trump is confirmed. Why is there no call for a national strike as in other countries when great danger is threatened?

Why are too many happy to stay in their bubbles, which may not prove to be so safe? Trump and the oligarchs (not the name of a band) is telling everyone who will listen who they are and what they will do.
