Weekend shooting in Holyoke takes life of Springfield man

HOLYOKE — A Springfield man was killed and another was injured in early morning shootings Saturday on High Street, authorities said.

Holyoke police officers responded to the area of the 400 block of High Street at approximately 2 a.m. for a reported shooting. Police found an adult male gunshot victim who was transported to Baystate Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Later, officers found a second victim in a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road in the area of 300 High St. The driver appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed to Baystate Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.

The Hampden district attorney’s office identified the victim as David Rivera, 31.

The investigation is being conducted by Holyoke police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the DA’s office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
