The Northampton Youth Senior football team split two games last week and now sit at 5-1 with two regular season games remaining on its schedule.

In the first matchup, two rushing touchdowns by star tailback "Mop-Mop" Soum-Morrero were not enough to get the win against Frontier. Northampton took a slim 8-6 advantage into halftime, but a late touchdown by the Redhawks put the game out of reach. Frontier pulled out a 26-16 victory, which was the Blue Devils’ first defeat of the year.

The Northampton seniors, nicknamed, “The Main Event,” would bounce back on Saturday night, however, blanking the Franklin County Bulldogs 22-0. Although the offense was potent and scored three touchdowns, the night belonged to Luke Hickson, who dominated both sides of the ball en route to the win. Hickson registered nine tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

Northampton has already qualified for the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, but before then the Blue Devils have a pair of games to get ready for. Northampton takes on South Hadley and Easthampton, starting with the Tigers on Saturday night.
