The South Hadley and Easthampton boys basketball teams were locked in a back-and-forth game until the buzzer.

Just when the Eagles thought they earned their second win, Nate Poirier and the Tigers snatched it away.

Poirier’s fade-away jumper from just inside the 3-point line in the corner beat the horn and gave South Hadley a 52-51 win at home Tuesday.

Easthampton had taken a 51-50 lead when Ish Akanour put back an offensive rebound with 9.8 seconds left.

The Tigers immediately called timeout. Poirier’s number was just one of the options out of the play coach Juan Maldonado drew up.

Poirier finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. Calvin Bridges added 14 and Matt Grochowalski (11 rebounds) 12 for the Tigers (4-2).

Ant Monyihan had 24 points with six 3-pointers for the Eagles (1-4). Zach Crisafulli scored 14 points.

Mahar 53, Frontier Regional 26 — Ben Lowe scored nine points in the home loss for the Red Hawks (1-5, 1-3 Hampshire).
