Express opinions without fear of personal attacks

In response to the tasteless letter published April 5 (“Columnist purposely gets under skin of community”), perhaps the writer’s comments should remind her of herself.

Where is the fairness of democracy, if all citizens are not able to express their opinions (last I knew this was still America) without being scathingly and personally attacked by, and I quote “narrow-minded, hateful, negative, divisive” (to choose only a few) people like the writer?

People who can only entertain their own self-righteous opinions are not better than those they criticize.
