HATFIELD — Easements associated with the $3.6 million water and sewer infrastructure improvement project on Route 5, and leases for town vehicles and equipment, will be decided at a special Town Meeting Saturday.
The warrant, with just two articles, commences at 11 a.m. at the Lions Club Pavilion on Billings Way.
The first article calls for permanent easements to install and maintain pump stations, force mains, manholes, pipes, and conduits on three parcels, including 1,100 square feet at 34 West St., 1,200 square feet at 32 West St. and 1,000 square feet at 12 Church St. along with a temporary construction easement of 250 square feet at 34 West St.
Town Administrator Marlene Michonski said an appropriation of money will be made only if it becomes necessary to take these properties by eminent domain.
The infrastructure improvement will extend sewer service on Route 5 from Linseed to Rocks roads, and water service for 2,200 feet along Route 5 south of Rocks Road.
The second article authorizes the Select Board to enter five-year leases for a mower to maintain fields and town property, as well as a mini excavator, dump truck, and school van.
Only 10 voters need to be present at the meeting to conduct business after the Select Board voted to allow, with the approval of the moderator, the reduction of the Hatfield-mandated quorum from 75 to 10 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
