HADLEY — Hadley will hold its fall Town Meeting at the Public Safety Complex on East Street for the second consecutive year.
The Select Board Wednesday voted unanimously to have the 14-article warrant taken up beginning Oct. 16 at 11 a.m.
Holding the special session at the public safety complex comes from the recommendation of Dr. Susan Mosler, chairwoman of the Board of Health, and Town Moderator Randy Izer, as a means of keeping people safe during the pandemic.
The warrant will include amendments to the fiscal year 2022 $18.2 million budget, spending on $630,000 in capital items, including equipment for the Department of Public Works and public safety departments, spending for various Community Preservation Act projects, and a question about whether the town should stay in or opt out of the state mosquito spraying program.
Town Administrator Carolyn Brennan told the board that most of the seating will be inside the garage bays to protect voters from the elements and ensure sufficient air circulation.
Though the meeting could have started earlier in the day, board members said the later start time allows farmers to complete their morning activities, and the temperature will likely be higher by midday.
The special Town Meeting held at the same location last November was done on a brisk afternoon, and the board is hoping to avoid a repeat of that.
“We did it too late last year,” board member Joyce Chunglo said.
