  • Last night’s announcement that a Florence firm plans to relocate in the virtually empty Northampton Industrial Park caps a year of hard work on the part of city officials and local businessmen, Mayor David W. Cramer said today. The Northampton Redevelopment Authority announced last night that Yankee Wood Industries of 51 Clarke Ave., Florence, plans to move to a two-acre site in the park, if it can obtain financing.
  • Elizabeth Kelly Ebitz of 48 Old South St. has opened offices for the practice of law at 39 Main St., it was announced today. Atty. Ebitz is a cum laude graduate of Boston University School of Law. She has been associated with the law offices of Atty. John J. Thornton, Court Street, Boston.

  • As people worldwide mourned those killed in the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, Northampton created a place to remember them. “We need to grieve because we’ve lost a part of ourselves. We feel the pain,” said the Rev. Peter Ives of First Churches, who was one of some 50 people, who gathered in Pulaski Park on a small plot of grass near Memorial Hall where Mayor Clare Higgins laid two wreaths at noon on Thursday.
  • As the nation responds to the crises in New York and Washington, students in the printing department at Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School are helping victims of the terrorist attacks by printing business cards with key telephone numbers and labels for donation cans for the American Red Cross.

  • For his efforts overseeing coastal protection and marsh restoration work in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services scientist Richard Bennett has been named the 2016 Green Gov Presidential Awards “Climate Champion.” Bennett, regional scientist at the service’s Hadley office, received the award at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington.
  • The Northampton building commissioner has ordered Rogers Hall at 49 Round Hill Road, formerly owned by the Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, to be demolished as soon as possible. The building was heavily damaged in a fire last month.
