AMHERST — Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s performance in “The Bear,” the FX/ Hulu comedy series, is earning him a second consecutive Emmy Award.

The Amherst native on Sunday night was recognized for being the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for the show’s second season. The award was given at the 76th Emmy awards, held just eight months after the delayed 75th Emmy ceremony.

Moss-Bachrach, a 1995 graduate of Amherst Regional High School, was presented the trophy by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez.

In his brief acceptance speech, Moss-Bachrach thanked his colleagues on and off the set of the Chicago-based series, which centers on fine dining chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, played by Jeremy Allen White, taking over a rundown restaurant in the Windy City left to him by his late brother, and his efforts to turn the place into a next-level dining spot.

Moss-Bachrach plays Berzatto’s family friend and shop manager Richie Jerimovich.

“I work with this incredible family every day it’s such a privilege,” Moss-Bachrach said during his speech.

He also gave a shout out to his parents, Renee Moss and Eric Bachrach. Moss ran children’s clothing store Lots for Littles and was also director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County, while Bachrach ran the Community Music School of Springfield.

“They’re taking such nice care of my cat,” he said.

Also thanked were his daughters, Mirabelle and Sasha, and Yelena, his wife.

Moss-Bachrach took home the award over Lionel Boyce, who also stars in “The Bear,” Paul W. Downs in “Hacks,” Paul Rudd in “Only Murders in the Building,” Tyler James Williams in “Abbott Elementary” and Bowen Yang for “Saturday Night Live.”

Though “The Bear” was nominated for outstanding comedy series again, after winning for its first season, “Hacks” ended up receiving the top prize.

“Hacks” also has a local connection. Lucia Aniello, who grew up in Hadley and attended Hopkins Academy, has written and directed episodes of the series.

White again won for lead actor in a comedy series, while Liza Colon-Zayas earned outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for “The Bear.” Ayo Edeberi, too, was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for “The Bear.”

During a post Emmy interview, Moss-Bachrach, who is clean shaven, said that was necessary for filming scenes in London for “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” a 2025 film in which he will be playing Thing.
