High Schools: Granby girls basketball clips Smith Academy in PVIAC Class D quarterfinals, 57-47 (PHOTOS)

Kalli White poured in 16 of her game-high 21 points in the second half, lifting No. 4 Granby to a 57-47 win over fifth-seeded Smith Academy in the PVIAC Class D girls basketball quarterfinal round on Friday night in Granby.
In addition to the win and a spot in the Class D semifinal round, the Rams (10-9) secured an automatic berth into the MIAA Division 5 state tournament with their 10th win of the season.
With Granby holding a 27-19 halftime lead, White scored 10 points in the third quarter for the home team, but the Falcons cut into the deficit to get within 43-37. The Rams held the visitors to just 10 points in the fourth however, holding on for the 10-point win.
Autumn Sicard scored 16 points for Granby, drilling four 3-pointers in the first half to help set the tone as the Rams built a 19-6 lead after one. Brenna Moreno tossed in nine points in the win.
Smith Academy (12-7) was led by a 20-point outing from Alexa Jagodzinski, while Caitlin Graves joined her in double figures with 11. Vivian Higuera added eight points for the Falcons, which will play a consolation game next week before the state tourney begins.
Next up for Granby is a trip to play at No. 1 Hoosac Valley for a spot in the sectional final. Date and time of that semifinal tilt is still to be determined.
No. 1 Hoosac Valley 62, No. 8 Hopkins 24 — The top-seeded Hurricanes built a 42-4 halftime lead on Friday night, and punched a ticket to play Granby in the Class D semifinals.
The Golden Hawks (3-16) will close out their season with a consolation game next week.

Class B quarters
No. 2 South Hadley 64, No. 7 Hampshire 39 — The Tigers took care of business in their quarterfinal matchup with the Raiders on Friday, building a 35-17 lead at the half to advance with a victory in South Hadley.
Cara Dean and Kate Phillips each scored 14 points, CC Gurek tallied 12 points, Ava Asselin scored seven points while Olivia Athas, Caitlin Dean and Grace Serman each added five points in the win for the Tigers, who advance to face third-seeded SICS in the semifinals. The Bulldogs knocked off No. 6 Pope Francis, 64-46, Friday.
Shayne Moynihan tallied 11 points, Addie Miklasiewicz scored eight points while Sammi Moreau and Alyssa Colon-Garcia each recorded five points for Hampshire.
Class B quarters
No. 3 South Hadley 68, No. 6 Greenfield 64 — The Tigers held a 53-40 lead going into the fourth and held off the Green Wave late to advance to the Class B semifinals with a victory in South Hadley Friday.
The Tigers (15-5) will face the winner of No. 2 Monument Mountain and No. 7 Belchertown — who play Monday — in the semifinals.
Noah Hambley recorded 18 points, Jack Loughrey scored 16 points, Isiah James tallied 14 points, Jackson Driver finished with 10 points while Tim Loughrey added six points in the victory.
Class C quarters
No. 1 Granby 97, No. 8 Hampden Charter 66 — The top-seeded Rams got the job done on Friday, as Riley Goodhind poured in 36 points to lead Granby into the Class C semifinals with a victory over Hampden Charter.
The Rams will face fourth-seeded Mahar in the semifinals, a rematch of last year’s Class C championship game.
Gavier Fernandez scored 22 points, Cody Breault tallied 14 points while Sawyer Clarke scored 10 points in the winning effort.
Girls basketball
Sci-Tech 46, Amherst 20 — Neena Chinappa scored a team-high nine points in the Hurricanes’ loss on Friday night. Maeve Fitzgerald added seven points for Amherst.
E. Longmeadow 51, Easthampton 41 — Samone Young was the high scorer for the Eagles with 12 points in a non-playoff loss on Friday.
Veronica Rapoza added eight points for Easthampton.
Boys ice hockey
Amherst 3, Taconic 1 — The Hurricanes ended the regular season winning five out of their last six contests, including Thursday night’s two-goal win over the Thunder at Orr Rink.
Benjamin Remensnyder tallied a hat trick for Amherst, including a pair of first-period goals that set the tone the rest of the way. With the ‘Canes ahead 2-1 in the third after a scoreless second period, Remensnyder lit the lamp for a third time to seal the deal. Alex Marlin and Sawyer Ferro recorded assists in the win.
Amherst goalie Spencer McDonald was terrific in the crease, stopping 30 shots on 31 attempts.
