With two outs and the tying runner at the plate and for the Wilbraham Falcons, Northampton Post 28 pitcher Griffin Smiarowski shut the door on any threat of a comeback – striking out the final batter of the game.

Post 28 hung on for a 7-5 win at Spec Pond on Wednesday night.

Smiarwoski also reached base all four times at the plate, singling twice, reaching on an error and walking while coming around to score twice. James Lavallee helped out Northampton’s offense with a single, a walk and two runs scored and Liam Flynn piped a two-run double and scored two runs of his own.

Flynn got the start for Post 28, tossing five innings of work on 90 pitches. He allowed three runs (two earned), walked two and struck out four on six hits before being spelled by Smiarowski.

Northampton led 7-3 after six innings before Wilbraham made things interesting with two runs in the seventh.

Post 28 is now 6-4 on the year, their next contest coming Friday evening at Arcanum Field against Westfield Post 124 at 5:45 p.m.

Greenfield Post 81 3, Easthampton Post 224 2 (8) — Tied 2-2 after four innings, neither Easthampton or Greenfield produced a run in the final three frames which led to extras.

Greenfield scored in the top of the eighth and Post 224 was unable to respond in the bottom of the inning, with Greenfield walking away with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday at Nonotuck Park.
