I am incredibly proud of the hardworking professionals at our Public Safety Communications Center. Every day, our dispatchers answer difficult calls with patience, professionalism, and dedication to the safety of our community. Their work is demanding and often unseen, yet they remain steadfast in their mission to provide exceptional service to our city.

Recently, our dispatchers were placed in a difficult situation when they received a call from an elected official seeking protected information. Despite the challenges of the moment, they handled the situation with grace and adherence to policy, demonstrating the integrity and professionalism that define our team.

I recognize and appreciate the dedication of our city leaders who advocate for their constituents and work to improve our community. However, leadership is most effective when it fosters collaboration and respect among city departments. Our public servants — whether in emergency communications, public works, or any other department — deserve a workplace where they feel valued and supported.

When employees face unnecessary stress and tension, it impacts morale and the overall effectiveness of city services. Rather than creating divisions, we should be working together to ensure that all departments have the resources they need to hire, retain, and support the best people for the job.

Moving forward, I hope to continue our historically strong partnerships between city employees and our elected officials who serve in legislative and oversight roles. This foundation has been built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to serving our community. I truly believe that this event was an isolated incident and by supporting and working with city departments, we can all contribute to making our city the best it can be.
