Bill Packard: Consider Greenway trail plan favored by neighborhood

Concerning the front-page article about the planning Mill River Greenway bike path through Haydenville, it should have been noted that the majority of the residents of Lower South Main (from Bridge Street to Fort Hill Road) want the bike path boulevard alternative plan through small section of the street. [“Residents resist Greenway trail plan,” Gazette, April 26].

If this is what we residents prefer and may lower the overall cost, why not? Safety of the bikes sharing the road is addressed with 20 mph and speed bumps. Most of the cyclists would use the road anyway as they do now even if a Greenway shared path were to be put in.

The people mentioned in the article who oppose the boulevard plan do not live on this section of South Main. Why would they object to what the residents prefer? I wouldn’t object to the plans they would like on their street.
