I attended the March 18 packed town hall with U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern at Greenfield Middle School. Frustration and urgency were palpable. Communication also was an important topic, so I’ll put out some thoughts.
Let’s say $100 billion of taxpayer dollars goes to aid food availability for people in need (i.e., SNAP), grants to farmers and small businesses to help sustain them, educational and health programs, etc., most of which are intended to help out the lower-income population.
Or, the same taxpayer money, $100 billion (supposedly being saved) will be redistributed to the wealthiest individuals and large corporations in the form of tax cuts. Same cost, different application.
Illegal deportations, defying the courts, suppressing negative news coverage, ordering Republican House members to not engage in town halls, are among many topics that need to be brought out and discussed more openly and broadly.
If you are content and applaud these moves, then do nothing and go along for the ride to one-man rule. If not, it is almost past time to organize and resist.
Your stance on these issues reflects your values and principles and by extension the country’s.
Let’s keep the “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave” not “Land of the Liar, Home of the Gullible.” Don’t submit, resist!
