Wednesday’s high schools: Jake Balderston records 100th point in Amherst Regional hockey career

The team accomplishment came last year, when the Amherst Regional hockey program won a Western Massachusetts Division 3A title.
An individual milestone came in 2017 for senior Jake Balderston.
With three goals and an assist in a 7-0 win over Easthampton at Lossone Rink Wednesday, Balderston surpassed 100 points in his career.
“It means so much because it’s a product of a lot of hard work by not just myself but teammates,” Balderston said. “I wouldn’t have been able to score those goals and make those passes for assists without my teammates.”
More important than the milestone is returning a winning tradition to Amherst hockey for Balderston.
“I cared about it not really for personal glory,” Balderston said. “More to show that what we’ve been building here with Coach (Mike) Rousseau is a winning tradition.”
Balderston’s point total now stands at 103 points for the Hurricanes.
“Milestones like that happen when you put together a great culture,” Balderston said.
