High schools: Kyra Lippman, Holyoke girls soccer edge Easthampton, 3-2

Kyra Lippman got the Holyoke offense going with a late first-half goal, and the Purple Knights held off host Easthampton for a 3-2 victory on Monday at Nonotuck Park in Easthampton.

Lippman staked visiting Holyoke (1-0-1) to a 1-0 halftime lead when she buried a breakaway goal with less than five minutes left in the opening stanza.

Easthampton’s Samone Young tallied in the second half, and Addison Barr made eight saves in net.

Frontier 3, St. Mary’s 1 – The Frontier girls soccer team has found a way to produce goals through the early portion of the season.

After scoring a pair of goals in its opener against Holyoke the Redhawks found the back of the net three times on Monday against St. Mary’s to walk away with a 3-1 Pioneer North victory in Westfield.

“Tonight was a total team effort,” Frontier coach Andy Rup said. “We were able to connect a few passes which led to a huge advantage in time of possession. I’m very impressed by their effort and unselfish play.”

Carly Robertson opened the Redhawk scoring, finding the back of the net from the right wing off an assist from Madelyn Fagan in the 19th minute. Two minutes before the halftime whistle blew Skyler Steele sent in a corner and Jazzy Hayes was able to connect on it and drive it into the goal to give Frontier a 2-0 lead at the break.

Athol 3, Gateway 0 – Gators goalie Jaylianna Rivera made five stops but Gateway’s offense couldn’t find a way past Athol keeper Avalynn Adams, who made three stops for the shutout.

Hampshire 9, Pittsfield 1 – Rylee Joseph notched a hat trick and five other players scored two points each in Hampshire’s rout against Pittsfield. 

Shayne Moynahan (2G), Emma Allyn (1G, 1A), Isabella LeBarron (1G, 1A), Addison Miklasiewicz (1G, 1A) and Maisie Bowler (1G, 1A) also scored for the Raiders. Anna Puttick, Libby Puttick and Jayden Hamel all had one helper each.

Keeper Makena Rogalski made five stops to earn the win.

South Hadley 4, Wahconah 0 – Lauren Marjanski netted a pair of goals and both Allison Fleury and Maddie Soderbaum had a goal and an assist in a shutout win. 

Gianna Roy and Kiana Ramos had a helper each, and South Hadley goalies Margo Watkins and Cara Dean both had two stops to preserve the shutout. 

 Boys soccer

PVCICS 3,  Duggan 1 – The Dragons bested Duggan in a rain-shortened game on Monday, with goals from Teddy Scott, Nolan Gage and Clayton English. 

Alex Hyrne notched two assists and Rafi Razmi had one helper. PVCICS keepers Richard Ang and Damian Loinaz split time in net, each making two stops. 

 Field hockey

Agawam 0, Frontier 0 – Neither Frontier or Agawam could break through in Monday’s contest, playing to a scoreless draw. 

The Redhawks peppered Agawam goalie Amber Bates with 13 shots. Frontier keeper Kyra Richards made six saves to keep her team in the contest. 

Frontier (0-2-1) is still looking for its first win (and goal) of the season, though the club has allowed just two goals in three games defensively. Its next contest will be against a tough opponent in Longmeadow on Tuesday. 

Girls volleyball

Turners Falls 3, Easthampton 0 – Kayley Downie and Kaelin Damon put on a defensive clinic with 18 and 10 digs, respectively, but it wasn’t enough in a three-set defeat to Turners Falls (25-19, 25-14, 25-13). 

Setter Erin Teague had seven assists and Damon added four kills in the loss. 

Commerce 3, Granby 1 – The Rams managed to take the second set from Commerce, but it wasn’t enough in a four-set loss (25-11, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16). 

Annabella Brown had 21 digs and four kills and Noel Summerlin had nine digs, three kills and two aces. Sara Lessard added seven digs, three aces and two kills. 

Smith Voc 3, Renaissance 0 – Roma Bentrewicz had five assists, one kill and one ace and Heidymar Diaz-Lopez had five digs, eight aces, and three kills in a three-set victory over Renaissance (25-12, 25-23, 25-12). 

Jaelyn Kulas dug up five balls and had an assist and Brook Wolcott had four aces and one dig. 

South Hadley 3, Hampden Charter 0 – The Tigers rolled to a 25-11, 25-18, 25-10 sweep.

Golf

Hopkins 167, Athol 221 – The Golden Hawks had the three best rounds of the afternoon against Athol, led by medalist Ryley Regan's 39. 

Also scoring for Hopkins were Liam Flynn (41), James Burke (41) and Jack Dyjach (46).
