High schools: Northampton boys tennis holds off Amherst (PHOTOS)

AMHERST – In their first varsity matches, Arlo Bourdon Levy and Emiliano Hidalgo sealed a 4-1 victory over Amherst for the Northampton boys tennis team Tuesday.

The Blue Devils’ No. 2 doubles team defeated Jackson Barber-Just and Dawson Wu 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the third and decisive point.

Northampton’s No. 2 singles player Max Cahillane survived a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 thriller against Amherst’s Woojin Kwon. At No. 3 singles, Ethan Metz won 6-2, 6-2 over Amherst’s Elias Kotsaros.

The Blue Devils’ No. 1 doubles paring of Maitreya Abend and Oliver Lavine took down Rory Hartblay and Oliver Hansell 6-2, 6-2.

Miles Jeffries earned Amherst’s lone point at No. 1 singles, beating Aidan Metz 6-1, 6-3.

Girls tennis

Longmeadow 4, Belchertown 1 – Ava Shea captured the lone win for the Orioles, snagging a tidy 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles on Tuesday over Longmeadow’s Grace Tyler.

Baseball

Hampshire 3, Drury 2 – Edward Przybyla tossed five solid innings on the mound, and the Raiders played what coach Mark Baldwin said what their best all-around game of the season in a 5-1 win in North Adams on Tuesday.

Przybyla allowed just four hits in his five innings to pick up the win for Hampshire (5-2), striking out four. Jack Boyle earned the save with two scoreless innings.

Liam Pond and Justin Meunier finished with two hits apiece in the win, while Meunier scored twice and Pond drove in a pair. Przybyla added a double and scored a run, and Boyle added an RBI single.

Smith Vocational 10, Mahar 0 (5) – Marshall Ingram tossed a five-inning no-hitter, and the Vikings turned a 3-0 lead into a 10-0 win with a seven-run bottom of the fifth inning on Tuesday.

Ingram struck out nine batters and walked just two in the outing.

West Springfield 12, Granby 0 – Terriers pitcher Colby Harrington held the Rams to just one hit in a five-inning shutout on Tuesday.

Daniel Gauvin had the lone hit for Granby, which allowed six runs in the second and five in the third.

Frontier 1, Greenfield 0 – It was Frontier’s Wyatt Edes who stole the show on Tuesday.

The junior tossed a complete game no-hitter, striking out five and allowing just two Greenfield players to reach base — one on an error in the second inning and another on a hit by pitch in the sixth. At the plate, Edes drove in a run with a single in the first and it proved to be the only run Frontier needed, with the Redhawks walking away with a 1-0 victory. 

Chicopee Comp 9, Northampton 6 – One inning proved to be the difference on Tuesday, as visiting Chicopee Comp scored all nine of its runs in the top of the third en route to the 9-6 win.

The Blue Devils held a 6-3 edge in the hits department. The hosts led 2-0 after two innings before falling behind 9-2 in the third.

Northampton’s Drew Michna allowed three earned runs in three innings on the mound.

Softball

Pittsfield 10, Hampshire 6 – Teagan Charles smacked a grand slam for the Raiders, which suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday in Westhampton.

Ryanne Dubay was 2-for-3 at the plate for Hampshire (5-1).

Frontier 20, Athol 7 – The Frontier softball team had its bats rolling on Tuesday against Athol. 

The Redhawks finished with 13 hits in five innings, scoring eight in the first, three in the second, six in the third and three in the fourth to walk away with a 20-7 victory over the Bears in Athol. 

Liv Machon had a big day at the plate for Frontier, knocking a single, a double and a triple while driving in a pair of runs. Ashley Taylor knocked a triple and drove in two runs, Delaney Fifield doubled, singled and tallied three RBIs, Hailey Hutkoski knocked a pair of hits and drove in a run, Sophia Pinardi, Skyler Steele and Addy Ehle each doubled and knocked in a run while Gabby Adams had a pair of hits and RBIs in the win. 

Monument Mt. 25, Smith Voc 10 – Josilyn Dubay was 3-for-4 with three triples and three RBIs for the Vikings in a loss to Monument Mountain on Tuesday.

Annalise Kaczenski also finished with three hits for Smith Voc.

Boys lacrosse

Amherst 12, Belchertown 11 – The Hurricanes built a 6-3 halftime lead and managed to hold off the Orioles in a tight contest played Tuesday.

Skyler Ferro and Linus Hazen each netted hat tricks for Amherst, which received two goals and two assists from Jameson Dion.

Belchertown’s Nico St. George led all scorers with five goals and an assist, while Landon Andre had a pair of goals for the Orioles.

Hoosac Valley 8, Granby 3 – The Rams led 3-1 after one quarter but Hoosac rattled off seven unanswered goals to pull away for the victory on Tuesday.

Granby’s Riley Goodhind, Connor McDonell and Stewart Szlosek each scored a goal.

Boys volleyball

Holyoke 3, Ware 0 – Jeduar Colon went for 12 kills and 22 digs to help the Purple Knights to a 25-18, 25-21, 26-24 sweep of Ware on Tuesday.

Adrian Feliciano put down four kills for Holyoke (4-2).
