High schools: Balanced Belchertown gets past South Hadley in golf opener

Three Belchertown’s golfers shot the lowest three rounds of the day on Thursday to propel the Orioles to a 163-176 win against South Hadley at Cold Spring Country Club in Belchertown.
Henry Poissant shot a 39 for the Orioles to earn medalist honors, while teammates Michael Murray and Cal Orzech were right behind with identical rounds of 40.
Jared Haynes and Daniel Hulmes posted rounds of 44 to account for the final Belchertown score.
Caiden Drohan shot the lowest score for the Tigers (41). Ryan MacGregor followed with a 44, while other South Hadley scorers included Jack Maziarz (45) and John Viola (46).
Hampshire 176, Frontier 184 – Hampshire’s depth gave the Raiders the edge over Frontier on Thursday at Beaver Brook Golf Course in Williamsburg.
Cam Jarosz was the medalist with the low score of 42 for Hampshire. Close behind him was Owen Lech (43), Pryden Messier (45) and Cole Boissonneault (46).
Frontier’s lowest score of the day came from Ryan Cetto (44). Cade Allenby was right behind with a 45 for the Hawks.
