High schools: Doubles teams lift Northampton girls tennis past East Longmeadow

The Northampton girls tennis team relied on its doubles tandems on Friday afternoon, and they both delivered in a tight match against East Longmeadow.
The Blue Devils’ doubles pairs of No. 1 Annalisa Agliati and Summer Sorenson (6-1, 6-0) and No. 2 Julia Krivoy-Einhorn and Giselle Ohm (6-1, 6-3) helped propel the Blue Devils to a 3-2 win over the Spartans.
No. 3 singles Ursala Von Goelen won 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the deciding point for Northampton.
Minnechaug 5, Belchertown 0 — Two matches went to third sets, but the Falcons managed to hold off Belchertown for a 5-0 sweep on Friday.
Belchertown’s No. 1 singles player Ava Shea and the No. 2 doubles team of Mia Corish and Emalee Chaisson both pushed their opponents to third sets
Northampton 4, Amherst 1 — Reilly Fowles earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles for the Blue Devils over Amherst’s Miles Jeffries, while teammate Durrell Patrick picked up another victory at No. 3 singles in a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Aidan Metz and Ethan Metz also notched a 6-0, 6-0 sweep for Northampton at first doubles, while Maitreya Abend and Oliver Levine earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at second doubles.
Hopkins 9, Hampshire 6 — The Golden Hawks took advantage of 10 walks from Hampshire pitching, grabbing an early 7-1 lead and holding on for a Suburban League West victory on Friday.

Liam Flynn earned the win for Hopkins, striking out nine in 6 2/3 innings of action. Alex West recorded the last out for the save. Patrick Fitzgibbons was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Cody West drove in four runs, including a key two-run single.
Hampshire’s Mike Thompson was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Jack Boye had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, and Jacob Sicard registered an RBI double.
Smith Academy 7, Hoosac Valley 2 — The Falcons scored in every inning but the fourth, and Logan Graves struck out five in a complete-game outing to get past the Hurricanes.
Graves, who allowed just two hits and two walks, also smacked two hits offensively and drove in a run. Griffin Smiarowski was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Robert Slysz and Griffin Goldman each had two hits and an RBI.
Belchertown 9, Mount Greylock 4 — A five-run bottom of the third helped the Orioles rally from a 4-1 deficit en route to the victory on Friday in Belchertown.
Evan Ferguson went all seven innings, striking out six and allowing just four hits and two walks. Joe Mankowsky was 2-for-3 with three runs scored in the win, while Josh Misiaszek had two hits and two RBIs. Brady Perkins scored twice and drove in a pair, and James Delaney added a hit and two RBIs.
Holyoke 10, Amherst 2 — Darwin Jimenez Ventura had two hits and three RBIs, and the Purple Knights overcame an early deficit to snag a 10-2 victory on Friday at MacKenzie Stadium.
Yomar Rodriguez also had two hits for Holyoke, while Pablo Tapion added a hit and two RBIs. Owen Pecia earned the win for Holyoke, striking out two batters and allowing six hits.
The Hurricanes scored their two runs in the top of the first inning. Thatcher Rudnik had a hit and an RBI for the visitors, and struck out eight on the mound.
Granby 15, Paulo Freire 1 (5) — Eighth grader Meredith Bartosz tossed a complete game, striking out six and walking one while scattering just two hits as the Rams rolled to victory.
Bartosz helped herself out at the plate with a 3-for-4, two-RBI day. Quinlan Cook was 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while other offensive stars included Sydney Chateauneuf (3-for-4, two RBIs), Kaitlyn Curran (2-for-3, RBI), Cassandra Flaherty (2-for-3, two RBIs), Lauren Parker (two triples, two RBIs), and Ellie Szlosek (double, three RBIs).
Hampshire 8, Turners Falls 1 — The Raiders won a key independent contest against a Western Mass. powerhouse, as Hailey Wodecki smacked three doubles to pace the offensive attack.
Hampshire’s CC Thayer added two hits, including a double.
Mohawk Trail 5, Smith Academy 3 — Caitlin Graves paced the Falcons with two triples and a single in a tight loss to the Warriors on Friday.
Keene Jeffress had one hit, scored one run, and had one RBI. Jillian Lavallee doubled and scored a run for Smith Academy, while Keene Jeffress had a hit, scored a run and tossed in an RBI. Haley Springman also had a hit, and pitcher Keighley Gworek struck out five in the circle.
Minnechaug 12, Northampton 0 (5) — Kaliya Valentin struck out six in the circle for the Blue Devils.
South Hadley 17, Belchertown 6 – Ethan Roy led the Tigers with six goals and Owen Dawson finished with six points (2G, 4A). Sly Curto netted four goals, Charles Anischik had two goals and two assists and Jack Sullivan added two goals and an assist for South Hadley.
All six of the Orioles’ goals came in the second half. Belchertown’s Brady Moreau led the Orioles with a hat trick in the loss.
Westfield 16, Northampton 4 – Henry Fallon stopped 20 shots for Northampton in a loss to Westfield.
Jack Carpenter netted two goals and Keller Mahoney dished out two assists for the Blue Devils.
Amherst 11, Hampshire 3 – The ‘Canes held a slim 4-2 lead at halftime but outscored the Raiders 7-1 in the second half to earn the win.
Francesca Sloan scored a hat trick for Amherst and Talia Sadiq and Abi Como each netted a pair in the win.
Mary Thibault, Erin Miller and Emily Jendrysik scored for Hampshire.
Granby 3, Athol 1 — The Rams rode the play of Michael Swanigan (15 kills) and Jake Gagn on (30 assists) to a 25-13, 22-25, 25-6, 25-14 win over the Bears on Friday.
Robert L'Abbee also went for 10 kills in Granby’s victory, while Braeden Gallagher had six digs and Nathan Walsh added five.
Amherst Little League
Nick Stinson, Jesse Drinker and Nolan Ingram combined for 15 strikeouts as the Amherst Red Sox edged the Am herst Orioles, 7-6, on Thursday at Mill River.
Oliver Howard had two hits to pace the Red Sox, while the Orioles received an RBI triple from Kaalen Worgess. Jonah S omers, Julian Park, Keenan Hamilton (2 RBIs) and Gus Garrett Peltier also had hits, and the O's pitchers struck out 10, three from first-timer Simon Doherty-Girard.
